John W. Hunter, 91, of Swarthmorewood, died December 5, 2015 at his home. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late William and Mary Cassidy Hunter and resided in Norwood before moving to his late residence 58 years ago.

John was a graduate of Glen-Nor High School, class of 1942 and was a decorated WWII veteran, serving in the US Army in artillery. He was employed as a union carpenter for 40 years before retiring in 1986. John was a member of Notre Dame de Lourdes R.C. Church and the Carpenters Union Local #845. He was a supportive family man with a dry sense of humor who enjoyed people and was proud to be born on a national holiday. John especially enjoyed being with his family and extended family.

He was predeceased by his siblings, William Hunter and Mae Hunter.

John was the loving husband of Anne P. Driscoll Hunter, his wife of 58 years; father of John W. Hunter, Jr. (Mary), Martha Tiriris (Richard), Christopher Hunter (Diane) and William Hunter (Kimberly); grandfather of Victoria, Jacqueline, Elizabeth, John, Brandi, Shane and Matt: also survived by six great grandchildren.
