Obituary

John A. Conboy, Jr. 96 of Ridley Park, died on January 3, 2015 at Crozer Keystone Hospice at Taylor Hospital.

Born in Philadelphia in 1918, John moved to his late residence in 1955. He worked as a machinist for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 42 years at the Wilmington Locomotive Shops.

During World War II John served in the U.S. Army with the 474th Antiaircraft Automatic Weapons Battalion (SP), which distinguished itself as one of the most successful antiaircraft artillery units of WW II. He deployed in the first wave of the D-Day Invasion in Normandy, and was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. John received the American Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the European American Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, the Knights of Columbus Peace Council #4518 and American Legion Post 405 in Philadelphia. John enjoyed bowling at the former Ridley Bowl with the Old Timers League and was a volunteer of Meals on Wheels for over 25 years.

John was the loving husband of the late Margaret Mary "Peg" Hanlin Conboy; son of the late John A. and Helen Sweeney Conboy and brother of the late Helen Mack and James Conboy.

He was the devoted father of John A. Conboy, III (Carol), Meg Conboy, Edd Conboy and James Conboy (Jane McNichol); also loving grandfather of Sheri and Matthew Conboy.

Funeral Mass 10:30AM Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, 208 Milmont Ave., Milmont Park, PA where friends may call 9:15 to 10:15AM. Burial SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
