Joan Stewart Donkin, 81, died March 27, 2013 at Lankenau Hospital. Born in Washington, PA, she lived in Ridley Park since 1960. Joan was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1949 and California PA State Teachers College. Joan was employed as a teacher for the Interboro School District at Glenolden Elementary School before retiring in 1992.
She was a member of Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Circles. Joan taught Vacation Bible School and was also a member of the Ridley Park Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Joan enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events and spending summers and weekends at Lake-In-Wood Campground in Berks Co. She collected antique glassware, enjoyed knitting and was an avid reader, but most important was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joan was the daughter of the late Russell V. and Eleanor Moore Stewart.
Survivors: loving wife of 58 years of Norman E. Donkin, Sr., mother of Ned Donkin, Jr. (Karen) and Mark Donkin (Suanne); sister of Martha Stewart and Russell V. Stewart, Jr.; grandmother of Heather, Courtney, Becky, Norm, Dana Rowe, Tara Valletti (Joe), and Bill Rowe (Jen), also survived by six great grandchildren.
Funeral Service: 10 AM Wednesday at Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church, Two Sylvan Ave., Rutledge, PA 19070.
Visitation: 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park and 9 to 9:45 AM Wednesday at the above church.
Burial: Edgewood Memorial Park
