Joan E. Buffington (nee O'Brien), 99 of Ridley Park died on August 27, 2024 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.  Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the daughter of the late Christopher and Elizabeth McEaney O'Brien, she lived in Garden City before moving the Ridley Park 70 years ago.
Joan was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre High School and was also a graduate of the Chester Hospital School of Nursing.  During World War II she was a "Rosie the Riveter" that helped weld supplies for the war.  Before her retirement she worked at Taylor Hospital and Elwyn.  Joan was a member of St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church and was also a member of the Sodality at The Church of St. Madeline.  She enjoyed Women's Wednesday Night Bingo as well as being a member of the Ridley Park Seniors, Young at Heart Seniors and the Red Hat Society. Joan's other hobbies included playing cards and dancing.
She was the loving wife of the late Earl J. Buffington, mother of Joan C. Buffington and Nancy E. Snyder (Richard), sister of Christine Hine and the late Bernard O'Brien, Margaret White and Barbara Eckenrode, she is also survived by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation 9:15 to 10:15 AM Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park.  A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, 1901 Chester Pike, Eddystone.  Burial SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
