Obituary

Jessica Marie Moorhead, 36, of Chestnut Hill, Pa., passed away on June 10, 2023. Born and raised in Prospect Park, Pa., Jessica graduated from Interboro High School in 2004 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Temple University in 2008. She subsequently earned a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from Villanova University. Jessica began her employment at Commerce Bank during her high school years and most recently worked as a grant accountant in the Office of Research Services at the University of Pennsylvania.

As a nature lover, Jessica found true joy in spending time outdoors, including walking, hiking, and biking in the Hudson River Valley, where she lived for a year on a solo adventure. While living in New York State, she walked dogs and did pet sitting as a side gig. Jessica loved animals and treasured Abraham, her cat of many years.

Oceans, rivers, and waterways held a special draw for Jessica, and she never missed an opportunity to book a boat ride. She enjoyed collecting seashells and walking on the beach. Spending a summer at the shore was on her bucket list. She did so in 2017, relishing a fun-filled time in Ocean City, New Jersey, taking ceramics and exercise classes, reading books, and enjoying good food, family, and friends. Jessica met her fiancé Sean that summer. She also enjoyed many walks, hikes, and yes, even tried running with Sean in Wissahickon Valley Park. He proposed to her there in 2019.

Jessica believed in living as sustainably as possible, using glass containers and reusable packaging. She liked veggies, clean eating, and making plant-based meals using whatever was in her Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) haul. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed watching cooking shows. She also played along while watching Jeopardy. Jessica always persevered with the emotional inflation and deflation of a typical Eagles season.

She valued old things, like her collection of teapots, for their history, the stories they hold, and their practicality. She liked to upcycle and find new uses for things. Jessica also expressed her creativity doing crafts and especially treasured family craft nights. She loved to make ceramics and marked the bottom of each piece with an anchor.

Quick-witted, smart, and a stickler for good grammar and punctuation, Jessica was an excellent writer, speaker, enjoyed a good debate, and appreciated good spelling. She had a few pet peeves: use of excessive commas and exclamation points included. Jessica's sense of humor was dry, her laugh light, and she was a deep thinker.

During her treatment journey, Jessica received support and formed strong friendships with the breast cancer community. Infinite Strength provided emotional support and healing. Although a very private person, she became an advocate and eloquent spokesperson for Living Beyond Breast Cancer and shared a testimonial for Her Story. She was active with Unite for HER and raised funds for METAvivor Research and Support, Inc., among others. She also found support from the Living Beyond Breast Cancer Young Advocates, Healing Consciousness Foundation, and other organizations. She researched her disease thoroughly, developed a near clinical expertise, and asked provoking questions. Jessica's doctors said they've already used what they learned from her in their treatment of others.

She had a strong faith in God and a deep, fierce love and devotion to family. Jessica adored her younger brother, Jimmy, and enjoyed countless hours watching the myriad of sports games he played throughout the years. She was a role model to him both personally and professionally. She loved spending time with her family and maintained a special bond with her mother. Jessica found her soulmate in Sean, her kind, calm, strong, steadfast partner in life, love, sickness, and health.

Jessica oftentimes used an anchor in her signature and used the sea as an analogy in her writing. To recount in Jess's own words: "To be 'lost' suggests I have defined an endpoint, a terminus, a home. But in this life, it's not the destination, but the journey. Gratefully, Prayerfully, Wherever the tide takes me."

She is no longer adrift or unmoored. She has found her island in the sun. Jessica's memory will be held dear by her fiancé Sean Reisman, mother Sharon Moorhead, father Robert Moorhead, brother James Moorhead (fiancée Heidi Dunleavy), paternal grandmother Elizabeth Sindoni, and many loving cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family, and friends. Jessica joins her maternal grandparents Doug and Susan Bartlett and paternal grandfather Harry Moorhead in the loving hands of God.

Jessica's Burial Rite and Eucharist will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Christ Church Episcopal, Nevin St. and Sellers Ave., Ridley Park where relatives and friends may call after 10 AM.  Burial private.
