Obituary

Jeanne H. MacAlpine, 77 of Swarthmore, PA died peacefully at home on December 25, 2011, surrounded by her family, following a decade-long battle with emphysema.

Born in Carroll, Iowa on June 21, 1934, Jeanne was raised in Iowa and then briefly lived in Illinois before moving to Swarthmore fifty years ago.

Jeanne graduated from Carroll High School and earned a BS degree in Home Economics with a specialty in Applied Art from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

Jeanne was a certified teacher and taught in the Des Moines Public school system for a year. In Swarthmore she was active in the community. Later she was employed at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia in the department of Museum Education. Jeanne was highly creative, making pottery, stringing beads and painting silk scarves. In her "retirement" she served on the board of The Community Arts Center in Wallingford.

Jeanne will be remembered for her fun-loving sense of humor, her warmth and her kind support and love of friends and family.

Jeanne was the daughter of the late Rollin William Humphrey and the late Gladys Cutter Humphrey of Carroll, Iowa. Jeanne was the sister of the late Joan Drees of Carroll, Iowa.

Survivors: Her loving husband John C. MacAlpine, III, her sister Janet Swan of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Her sons: Dirk William MacAlpine (Ginny Durham) of Media, PA, J. David (Michelle) MacAlpine of Plano, TX, Her daughter: Megan MacAlpine (Theodore Lee) of Swarthmore. Her grandchildren: Kira MacAlpine of Philadelphia, PA, Caylan MacAlpine of Plano, TX, and Ryker Lee of Swarthmore.

Memorial Service: A Celebration in honor of her life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 1 pm at The Community Arts Center, 414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingford, PA 19086.
