1933-2017
James F. Urey, 84 of Upper Chichester, died December 9, 2017. Born and raised in Eddystone, he was son of the late Robert M. and Helen A. Taylor Urey.
Mr. Urey was a graduate of Eddystone High School, class of 1952 where he was an accomplished athlete and the only Five Letterman to ever graduate from the school. He won the state championship in the long jump and excelled in many other sports. His athletic accomplishments earned him a place in both the Ridley Old Timers and Delaware County Hall of Fames. After graduating high school he served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Following his service he was employed as a Oil Burner Serviceman and then a Supervisor at Sun Oil for 29 years, retiring in 1990. Jim was a member of St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, American Legion Post #951, Town and Country Golf Club and was a lifetime member of the Eddystone Boys Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed hunting, archery, bowling as well as vacations at the family homes in the mountains and Myrtle Beach. Most importantly, Jim will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was predeceased by his son James R. Urey who died on August 22, 2009.
Jim is survived by his wife and "queen" of 65 years Margaret C. "Maggie" Howarth Urey, children Patricia A. Witt (Chip), Joan M. Morrison (Ray) and Rick K. Urey (Jackie), grandchildren Erin Sylvester (Joe), Julie Smith (Chuck), Kelly Edwards (Scott), Chris Morrison (Michelle), Courtney Zook (Josh), Matt, Rachael and Rebecca Urey and his great-grandchildren Madelyn, Joey, Ava, Raelyn and CJ.
Funeral Mass: 10 AM Thursday at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, 1901 Chester Pike, Eddystone, PA 19022. Visitation 7 to 9 PM Wednesday and 8:30 to 9:15 AM Thursday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park. Burial Mount Hope Cemetery.
