Obituary

James E. Dyson, 85, of Springfield, died August 19, 2014 at Taylor Hospital. Born in Chester and raised in Norwood, Jim moved to his late residence in 1959. He was an accountant at Smith Kline and French for 30 years and DelCora for 7 years and previously was Auditor for Springfield Township.




Jim was a graduate of Glen-Nor High School, class of 1947 where he was a star athlete in football and basketball but was passionate about baseball. Jim played baseball for three years at Glen-Nor High School and was an American Legion all-star. He was a three year starting pitcher at Gettysburg College, then won more than 100 games in his Delco Baseball League career (1947-1960). He was also a graduate of Gettysburg College, class of 1951, earning a BA in Economics. Jim was inducted into the Delco Hall of Fame for baseball in 2001 and the Springfield Township Volunteer Memorial in 2010. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church and former President of the Springfield Lions Club. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family on Long Beach Island. Jim served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 7 years.




He was son of the late Ellwood E. and Natalie Howard Dyson and brother of the late Carole Simon.




Jim was husband of Elizabeth C. "Betty" Pustola Dyson, his wife of 57 years; father of Nancy E. VanPelt, Jayne T. Blasek (Michael) and James J. Dyson (Susan); grandfather of Aaron, Jake, Matt, Andrew, Katherine, Hannah and Emma.




Funeral Mass 10:00AM Saturday at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, 208 Milmont Ave., Milmont Park, PA 19033.




Visitation 7 to 9PM Friday and 8:30 to 9:15AM Saturday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park.




Burial Holy Cross Cemetery.
