James J. Harkins, 84, died on October 27, 2021 and his wife of 51 years, Kathleen M. (nee Zeilman) Harkins, 80, died on October 30, 2021. Mr. and Mrs. Harkins were residents of Holmes in Ridley Township for the past 26 years and previously lived in Philadelphia.
James was a graduate of Roman Catholic High School, class of 1955 and was employed as an Inventory Specialist for Boeing and member of UAW United Aerospace Workers Local 1069, before retiring in 2001. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church. James enjoyed crossword puzzles, trivia, coin collecting, baseball card collecting, and listening to the Golden Oldies. Most of all James loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He was son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Harkins (nee McCuen) and brother of Patricia Howell (late Edward) and Elizabeth Nowacky (James) and many nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was a graduate of West Catholic High School for Girls, class of 1958 and received an Associate's Degree in Business from Delaware County Community College. She worked at CDI Corporation in Philadelphia for 37 years before retiring in 2002. During her employment, she managed a work study program for 10 years with West Catholic High School for Girls. The program allowed students the opportunity to work part-time and train for future employment in the business world, this program provided opportunities for many students. Kathleen was extremely devoted to her faith and a member of Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church. She was a member of the Association of the Miraculous Medal and volunteered at St. Clements Parish School in Southwest Philadelphia. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening and reading, but most important was her family. The time spent with her family will always be cherished.
Kathleen was daughter of the late Francis and Catherine Zeilman (nee Forbes) and sister of the late Francis Zeilman (late Patricia) and Phillip Zeilman (late Christine) and many nieces and nephews
James and Kathleen were the devoted and loving parents of Katie E. Harkins Newman (James) and grandfather of Frank J. and Sara L. Newman and will be deeply missed by all.
Visitation 9-10 AM Monday, November 8, 2021 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave, Ridley Park followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, One Fatima Dr., Secane. Inurnment SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery
