Irving L. "Herky" Miller, 93 of Glen Mills died on June 27, 2024, at his home. Born in Chester, the son of the late Philip and Helen (nee Mechanic) Miller, he lived in Chester and Ridley Township before moving to Glen Mills 10 years ago.
Herky was a graduate of Chester High School, class of 1948 where he earned eight varsity letters, three years football, three years baseball and two years for basketball. He went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from West Chester State Teacher's College and a Master's degree in Remedial Reading from Temple University. Herky was a decorated veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War. He was employed as a teacher in the Ridley School District for 32 years, before retiring in 1986, and also coached JV and Varsity Football. Herky enjoyed golfing and was an avid sports fan who enjoyed all of the Philadelphia sports teams, as well as local college and high school teams. He attended all of his grandchildren's sporting events, never missing a game.
He was the loving husband of 50 years of Barbara E. Miller (nee Kopp), devoted father of Glenn McCoy and Karen Ross (Anthony), cherished grandfather of Melissa Billingsley (Michael), Douglas McCoy (Cherilyn), Brett Ross and Emily Ross, great-grandfather of Ryley, Lorna and Eliot McCoy, he is also survived by many cousins and their families.
Visitation 6-8 PM Wednesday, July 10, 2024 with Military Honors being presented at 7 PM at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park.
