Obituary

Ioannis Diavastis, 76, of Newtown Square passed away peacefully in his home on Monday May 15, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

Ioannis was born in Velvendo, Greece on June 12, 1946 to Harisios and Efthimia Diavastis. He was the devoted husband of Anna and loving father to Effie (Michael) Smith, Nitsa (Nick) Leone, and Harry (Daisy) Diavastis and the best "Papou" to his eight beautiful grandchildren, Anna, Yianni, Theresa, Nicholas, Melina, Konstantino, Isabella, and Yianna.

When Ioannis was 27 years old, he met the love of his Life Anna. To support his loving wife and his future family, he traveled to the US and worked as a busser, painter, dishwasher, and waiter for 8 months. After finding a place to live and saving enough money, he went back to Velvendo in the summer of 1974 and married Anna. Shortly after, they both came to the United States and started their life together.

Ioannis had always been an industrious worker; he would always make sure his family had everything they needed. For more than 30 years, he was the owner operator of King Painting Co. No task was too big or too small for Ioannis. From painting bridges, churches, strip malls, hotels, day cares and residences, his passion for painting was like no other.

Ioannis loved to travel to Greece. For the last 24 years, Ioannis and his wife would travel to Velvendo during the winter months. He would spend his time with his siblings, brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, mother-in-law, hundreds of friends as well as his nieces and nephews. His time with his "Parea" was priceless always eating, drinking, and dancing to his favorite Greek music. He was also enthusiastic about soccer, routing for his favorite Soccer team Panathinaikos.

Ioannis was always known for his smile, his laugh, and his amazing personality. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. The best Papou to all eight of them. No matter how busy he was he would always stop what he was doing and would do anything and everything for them. From playing Soccer, to teaching them math, he was their everything. Always had an endless supply of Ice Cream, Candy, Gum. As his grandchildren would leave, he would always run out and give them an extra kiss, wave to them good-bye and do his "Famous Happy Dance" from the driveway.

Ioannis loved hosting parties and gatherings at his home. He loved his "Parea". From Poker to Biriba he was a pro. His favorite Holiday was Easter. Rain or shine, Ioannis always made sure everyone had a great time. There was always plenty of food and drinks, enough to feed hundreds of people and his favorite drink "Raki" was always available for others to enjoy along with him.

Ioannis is survived by his beloved wife Anna Diavastis, his daughter Effie (Mike) Smith their two children (Theresa and Konstandino) his daughter Nitsa (Nick) Leone their four children (Anna, Yianni, Nicholas and Isabella) his son Harisios (Daisy) Diavastis their two children (Melina and Yianna)
