In Loving Memory of Hon. Paul G. Mattus (November 30, 1938 – September 9, 2023)

Hon. Paul G. Mattus, a true pillar of his community, passed away on September 9th leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and love. Born on November 30, 1938, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to John and Alice (Horan) Mattus. Paul spent over 80 remarkable years in Ridley Township, Pennsylvania, while also enjoying residences in Ocean City, New Jersey, and Fort Pierce, Florida.

Paul is pre-deceased by brothers John, Joseph, and sister Marylou. Paul's love story with his wife, Valerie (Hurchalla), spanned more than six decades. Their life together was blessed with a daughter, Jacqueline (Guy), and son Paul (deceased). Paul was also a loving grandfather (Paul, Amanda (Michael), Austin (Paige), Julia (Karl), Guy, Jessica (Bob), Colton (Karley), Dalton, Sophia, Tristan, Gabrielle) and great-grandfather (Lucas, Lacy, Ava, Karson, Mason) extending his warmth and wisdom to multiple generations of family. His love and guidance will forever resonate in their hearts.

Paul attended Our Lady of Peace School and graduated from St. James Catholic High School. He went on to receive a B.S. from LaSalle University. Paul answered the call of duty and served in the US Army Artillery Corps, where he achieved the rank of 2nd Lt. His honorable service reflected his commitment to his country and its values.

He enjoyed a successful 51-year career as an insurance professional with Allstate Insurance, earning the respect and trust of his clients. His dedication to the well-being of his community was evident through his 15 years of service as a Ridley Township Commissioner. He also spent 8 years on the Delaware County Council, ascending to the position of Chairman for a two-year term and served the people of Pennsylvania on numerous boards and commissions. Paul was appointed to the Delaware County Housing Development Corp. in March 1987 and served until January 1990. He was then appointed to the Delaware County Housing Authority Board in August 2007 and served until 2022. His political career was marked by a tireless commitment to public service and a deep love for his constituents.

Paul loved golfing at Rolling Green Country Club and Meadowood Country Club; in addition to listening to the Phillies games on the beach in Ocean City, NJ. Paul always enjoyed cheering for his favorite Philadelphia teams. It wouldn't be right if we didn't mention his love of horse racing – where he enjoyed the true meaning of "a run for your money".

Paul's legacy of leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family and community will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. His impact on the lives of many will be felt for generations to come. He was a devout Catholic, supporting his various parishes throughout the years and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
