Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Helen A. (Aniston) Beldecos, who departed this life on March 25, 2025, at the remarkable age of 100. She is predeceased by her parents, Anthony J. and Stella (Koumis) Anastassakis, her brothers Konstantinos A. and John A. Aniston, and her sister, Mary Aniston.

Helen was born on November 12, 1924, in Piraeus, Greece. At the age of four, she and her family immigrated to the United States, settling in Casper, Wyoming. In 1932, they returned to Greece for a brief period before permanently relocating to Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1935. There, they opened the Rialto Restaurant and eventually made their home in Eddystone, Pennsylvania. Helen attended Eddystone Elementary School and Smedley Middle School before graduating from Eddystone High School in 1944.

Following her graduation, Helen worked at Baldwin Locomotive Works while also helping at her parents' restaurant. She met the love of her life at a friend's wedding after his return from World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces. They married in 1946 eventually settled in Wallingford, Pennsylvania.  She remained a devoted wife to John A. Beldecos (predeceased) and a loving mother to Penelope J. Beldecos (predeceased), Anthony J. Beldecos (Carol), Andrew J. Beldecos (Becky), Stella B. Nikolopoulos (Peter), and Katherine B. Mudrick (Michael). As her children grew, she worked as a bank teller for Fidelity Bank/First Fidelity until her retirement in 1986.

Helen's deep devotion to the Orthodox Faith was evident in the way she guided and shaped others by the example she set. A lifelong member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Media, Pennsylvania (formerly Chester), she generously devoted her time to serving her church community. For over 30 years, she spent every Sunday organizing, setting up, and scheduling coffee hour for all to enjoy during fellowship hour. In the weeks leading up to the annual Greek Festival, she could be found tirelessly preparing Greek delicacies, desserts, and her beloved Tsoureki (Greek sweet bread).

She remained deeply committed to philanthropy through her lifelong involvement in the St. George Philoptochos Society and Daughters of Penelope, where she held various leadership positions. In 2008, she was honored by the Metropolis of New Jersey for her contributions to the philanthropic ministries of the Philoptochos Society of St. George Greek Orthodox Church where she was a symbol of selfless service. Her passion for supporting the youth of her community led her to teach Sunday school and assist with various youth programs during the years her children were active in the church Sunday school.

Never one to be idle, Helen loved cooking, baking, reading, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She never started her day without challenging herself to a crossword puzzle. She walked daily with her "Walking Group" at the Springfield Mall, followed by an hour-long coffee break with friends, which kept her strong physically and mentally into her 90s. Over the years, she lovingly created hundreds of baby blankets, lap covers, and scarves for new mothers, the elderly, and children at local schools. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Her home was always open—whether for a short visit or an extended stay—and some of her most cherished memories were summers spent at Brigantine Beach with children and grandchildren.

Those fortunate enough to have known Helen were blessed by her kindness, love, and unwavering optimism. She radiated joy; always smiling and always seeing the bright side of every situation. Even in her final days, when asked how she was doing, she would simply say, "I'm good." She lived her faith each day with patience, generosity, compassion, and grace; always rooted in Christ.

Helen is lovingly survived by her sons, Anthony J. Beldecos (Carol) and Andrew J. Beldecos (Becky); daughters, Stella B. Nikolopoulos (Peter) and Katherine B. Mudrick (Michael); and her cherished grandchildren: Eleni (Chris), Joyce, Jamie (Tyler), Michelle, Katherine (Steve), Maria, Eleni (Mark), Cynthia (Jared), and Anthony (Ashley). She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Anthony, Alexia, Konstantine, Roman, Wyatt, Ean, Lucas, Cooper, Asher, Peter, Lucy, Ava and Mia. In addition, Helen is survived by her beloved goddaughter, Lisa Trivelis, as well as her sister-in-laws, brother-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.

You were the strength and wisdom at the center of our family. Our minds still talk to you, our hearts still look for you, but our souls know you are at peace.
