Obituary

Hazel C. Short (nee Harshbarger), 87, of Glen Mills, PA, died October 30, 2013 at Brinton Manor Nursing Home. Born in Altoona, PA, she resided in Essington for 22 years and in Glen Mills for 45 years. Hazel was the daughter of the late Maxwell and Kathryn McCool Harshbarger. Maxwell, with brothers, had operated the Harshbarger Dairy.



She graduated from Altoona High School in 1944 and then from the Altoona School of Commerce. Hazel was employed by Scott Paper as a credit manager for 27 years before retiring in 1984.



Hazel was a member of St. John's Tinicum Memorial Lutheran Church where she played the organ and piano. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School there and participated in auxiliaries associated with her sons' activities. Hazel enjoyed traveling, visiting every state and Canadian province. She lovingly cared for aging parents and grandchildren. Her positive nature and smile were gifts to all.



She was the cherished wife of Richard H. Short, married 67 years; devoted mother of David R. Short and his wife, Penny, and Donald W. Short and his wife, Karen. Hazel was "Momommy" to grandchildren Kendra L. Moore and her husband, Jeremy, and Brandon W. Short. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Sarah, Kaelynne and Jake.



Funeral Service: 10:30AM Tuesday November 5th at St. John's Tinicum Memorial Lutheran Church, 601 Seneca St., Essington, where friends may call from 9:00 to 10:15 AM



Burial: Glenwood Memorial Gardens
