Obituary

Harry Samuel Koeneman was born March 30, 1929 to Harry Smith Koeneman and Reba Parr Koeneman (nee Foulk). He passed from life to life everlasting on October 21, 2024.  He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years and sweetheart since they were both 16 years old, Edith (nee Shoemaker), his son, Donald W. Koeneman (wife Cindy) and their son, Todd, and his daughter Diane Craig (husband James) and her daughter, Margaret Christie Hasse (husband Tobias).

Harry was a talented woodworker, a pattern maker by trade, who built their home in Kennett Square where they lived from 1965 until Harry and Edith moved to Maris Grove in 2007.  He also built the house that Diane and her family moved into in 1986, and the retirement home of Diane's in-laws.

His grandson, Todd remembers him as a wonderful grandfather.  Always willing to play and tease and to go out of his way to entertain, both as a prankster and a performer.  Whether he spent hours playing kickball in his driveway, attaching a wooden fish to catch off their back porch or to sing in the choir and perform, Harry always put his best foot forward in everything he did.

His granddaughter, Margaret has fond memories of going for walks in the woods with Pop-pop, and being pushed on the tree swing, and going down the basement to his workshop to "make something", allowing her to put together projects of her own devising, perfectly imperfect.
With his pure, clear tenor voice, he was a soloist in many church and community choirs, and in solo recitals and weddings.  Harry and his son, Don sang in the Boys/Mens choir until Don left for the Navy. His daughter, Diane and granddaughter, Margaret, shared his love of music and sang in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church choir with him for years.  He's now singing with the angels in the heavenly choir.

Big hearted, with a wonderful sense of humor through the end, he left an impression on all those who met him.

Harry will be remembered at a private family gathering.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org.
