Gilbert E. Furniss, Sr., 97, formerly of Folsom, died October 31, 2018 at Little Flower Manor. Born in Trainer, he was the son of the late George M. and Olive M. Hopkins Furniss and resided in Prospect Park before moving to the home he built by himself in 1953.
Gilbert was a graduate of Nether Providence High School, class of 1939 and was a decorated WWII veteran who served in the US Army Air Corps as a Sergeant. Upon discharge from the Army, he served an apprenticeship as a Plasterer and was a master craftsman until 1962. Gilbert was then employed by the US Postal Service as a Mail Carrier for 25 years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church and Herbert W. Best VFW Post #928. Gilbert was an avid wine maker and enjoyed his extensive music collection, but most important he was a devoted husband, father and family man.
Gilbert was the husband of Helen M. Guidetti Furniss, his wife of 72 years; father of Gilbert E. Furniss, Jr. (Nancy), Joseph M. Furniss, Sr. (Lois) and Marianne Furniss Watts (Brian); also survived by eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends may call from 10:00-11:00 AM Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Little Flower Manor, 1201 Springfield Road, Darby, PA 19023, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM.
