George J. Blaine of Ridley Park was united with God on May 25, 2012 at the age of 89.
Mr. Blaine was born in Chester, and in 1938 moved to Ridley Park with his parents and sister Catherine where the family became members of the Church of St. Madeline.
After graduating high school, he apprenticed at Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Corp. of Chester, PA until 1943 when he joined the US Army at the height of World War II. Mr. Blaine served in the Asian theater installing, repairing, and maintaining telephone and telegraph lines along the Burma Road and the Ledo Road in the mountains and jungles of Burma, India, and China. In 1946, he was honorably discharged as a Technician Fifth Grade (Corporal) and was awarded several commendations and medals including the Good Conduct Medal. After returning to the United States, Mr. Blaine resumed his apprenticeship and became a journeyman millwright.
He married Lillian, his beautiful wife of 48 years with whom he had three children, a happy life, and an enduring love. For three-quarters of a century, he faithfully attended and devotedly supported the Church of St. Madeline.
He pursued and continued his education at Drexel University and found employment at the Sinclair refinery in Marcus Hook. He retired from the same refinery 38 years later as the maintenance shop supervisor for British Petroleum. After his retirement, Mr. Blaine devoted his time to his golf game and his family, traveling with his wife across the United States and assisting his children and their families any time they needed his technical skill, resolute support, and unconditional love.
