Fred E. Schaffer, 83 a lifelong resident of Morton, died on December 15, 2024.  Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Phoan and Helen Olavson Schaffer.

Fred, who when asked how he was doing always said "I never had a better day", was a graduate of Ridley High School, class of 1959 and he went on to attend the Spring Garden Institute and then earned an associate's degree from Widener University.  He held many jobs over his lifetime but the two he was most proud of were as a Draftsman at Boeing (10 years) where he worked on the cockpit of the Chinook Helicopter, and as a Field Service Engineer at Pennsylvania Crusher Corporation (35 years) where he traveled the world fixing stone and coal crushing machines. He retired in 2007 to spend more time with his grandchildren.

Within the community, Fred served in the Pennsylvania National Guard (28th Infantry - Media, Pa) for 6 years and was a longtime youth baseball coach for the Folsom Boys Club Athletic Association where he coached both of his sons during that time.

Fred loved nothing better than spending time with family, whether that meant going to NASCAR or Sprint Car races, helping with home projects, drinking Manhattan's, watching lacrosse games, attending sand sculpting competitions, or simply going out to breakfast at his favorite local restaurants. He also loved watching his grandchildren grow up by spending time with them playing school, cleaning up glitter after they were done crafts with Nana, attending their dance recitals, and being their biggest fans at volleyball matches and lacrosse games.

He was the loving husband of 60 years to Dorothy Jones Schaffer, devoted father of Eric Schaffer (Dorrie) and Marc Schaffer (Kristen), and was the cherished "Little PopPop" of Logan and Rylie Schaffer who he always encouraged to use their imagination.

Relatives and friends are invited for a visitation starting at 9:30am, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am on Friday, January 3, 2025 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park, PA 19078.
