Frank R. Ryan, 83
Mr. Ryan was born in Chester, PA to Florence A. and Frank M. Ryan, and grew up in Springfield, PA.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged at a rank of CM3. He was a damage control worker on five different ships and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Ryan was educated at Temple University where he earned a BA and MA in Psychology. He served as a Court Psychologist for the Philadelphia Family Court for five years, Delaware County Court for ten years, and Glen Mills School for 26 years.
He served as Executive Director of Delaware County Youth and Family Services, Director of Charles Ellis School, Director of COMHAR Dual Diagnosis Partial Hospital Program, and Director of the Diagnostic Center of the Sisters of the Good Shephard. He was also a therapist and counselor at Tekakwitha High School. Past Board Memberships include Parent Education Training, Divine Providence Institute and St. Edwards Home for Crippled Children.
Primarily as an assistant to his wife, Joan Clay Ryan,Frank took great pleasure in raising their ten children in Ridley Park; he enjoyed sports programs with his sons and daughters as well as traveling with his wife, Joan. Frank enjoyed singing in St. Madeline's church choir and playing bridge.
He was predeceased by four older sisters: Anna Johnston, Veronica Kearney, Mary Keller and Dorothy Douglas.
Survivors: his wife of 61 years Joan Clay Ryan, his children Frank M. Ryan (Marianne) of Collingdale, James A. Ryan (Carolyn) of Wilmington, DE, Michael R. Ryan (Clare) of Ridley Park, Mark J. Ryan (Robin) of Holmes, Matthew G. Ryan (Theresa) of Flagstaff, AZ, Dr. Joan B. Ryan of Wallingford, Gerard C. Ryan (Irene) of Downingtown, Mary A Moffa (Peter) of Aldan, Martha R. DeFilippo (Matthew) of Unionville, Patrick J. Ryan (Kim) of Phoenixville and his sister Jean Crowley of Drexel Hill, also 39 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass: 10 AM Saturday at The Church of St. Madeline, Penn Street and Morton Avenue, Ridley Park
Visitation: 6 to 9 PM Friday and 8:15 to 9:15 AM Saturday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Avenue, Ridley Park.
Burial: Holy Cross Cemetery.
