Frances C. Zimmerman (née Hickman)
April 3, 1936 – February 12, 2025
In the early morning of February 12, 2025, heaven gained a beautiful soul as Frances C. Zimmerman (née Hickman) of Secane, PA, was welcomed into eternal peace. Known affectionately as "Gram" and "GG," Fran embodied love, kindness, and selflessness. Her laughter was contagious, her heart immeasurable, and her spirit an unwavering beacon of light. She had an unparalleled gift for turning life's hardships into moments of joy, lifting those around her with humor, warmth, and an unshakable devotion to family.
Fran is now reunited in heaven with her beloved son, Mark E. Zimmerman, and her adored grandson, Nicholas E. Colleluori, both of whom predeceased her. While the weight of their absence was heavy on her heart, she carried their memories with grace and honored them through her boundless love for others.
She leaves behind a lifetime of treasured memories in the hearts of those who loved her most—her devoted husband of 60 years, Edward Zimmerman, and her children, Cheryl McConnell Colleluori (Pasquale) and Linda McConnell Missanelli (Michael). She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Pasquale Jr. (Andrea), Daniel (Jennifer), Michael A. (Kaitlyn), Michael J. (Stephanie), and Jaclyn, and the cherished great-grandmother of Christopher, Ava, Khloe, Danica, Karsyn, Kyler, Madeline, Nicholas, and Josephine. Her love for her family was the essence of her being, and she found pure joy in every moment shared with them.
As a mother, she was a fearless pioneer for children with disabilities, fiercely championing educational rights, resources, and opportunities long before accommodations were standard. She refused to let challenges define or limit her family, teaching instead that resilience, compassion, and love were the greatest strengths.
Born on April 3, 1936, in Gloucester City, New Jersey, Fran was raised with strong values that shaped the remarkable woman she became. A proud graduate of Gloucester City Junior-Senior High School, she cultivated lifelong friendships, especially with her beloved sorority sisters.
Her professional life was as vibrant as she was—each job she held was a reflection of her personality and unwavering kindness. In her later years, Fran became a beloved presence at BJ's Wholesale Club in Springfield as the "sample lady," a role she embraced with enthusiasm and warmth. For 18 years, she worked for Ridley Township Swim Club, a place she held close to her heart, as it was the backdrop of countless summers spent with her family.
Fran and Ed's love story was one for the ages—a chance meeting at Emerald Room in Wildwood, NJ, led to a lifetime of devotion. Together, they built a love story filled with adventure, laughter, and unwavering support. From traveling the world—Japan, Europe, Alaska—to the simple joy of being together, their love was a testament to resilience and partnership.
Above all, Fran was the heart of her family. She adored playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, and watching game shows, simple pleasures that brought her immense happiness. She was a grandmother first and foremost, often introducing herself by saying, "I am the grandmother." Her love for her grandchildren was a force of nature, one that carried her through life's toughest trials, especially the loss of her son, Mark. After his passing, her grandchildren became her lifeline, her reason to smile again.
Fran's home was a place of hospitality and unconditional love, a sanctuary that extended beyond her immediate family. For over many years, she and Ed welcomed international exchange students, providing a home away from home for young scholars from Japan and Europe, forming bonds that spanned continents and generations.
Fran approached life with the same humor, grace, and resilience that defined her.
As her final days unfolded, surrounded by the family she had poured her heart into, Fran was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love. In her last moments, she softly said, "I never knew how much I was loved."
Her presence will be missed immeasurably, but her spirit will live on in every laugh, every act of kindness, and every cherished memory she leaves behind. Fran Zimmerman was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, and a friend—but above all, she was love in its purest form.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park where a Celebration of Frances' Life will begin at 10:30. Burial private.
