Frances G. ("Gina") Mirarchi died of natural causes on October 6, 2023 at the age of 91.
She was born Franceschina Girardina Cristiano on May 4, 1932 in Isca-Sullo-Ionio, in the province of Catanzaro, in the region of Calabria, Italy. She came to the United States with her husband, the late Giuseppe Emilio ("Joseph") Mirarchi and first-born son in 1953, first living in Chester, PA for five years before moving to Milmont Park.
On arriving in the United States, Gina found employment with the Reynolds Spring Company in Chester, PA. Thereafter, she worked tirelessly at numerous jobs in Delaware County, many in the food preparation area, including at The Franklin Mint, to help support her family.
Gina became first a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Chester and, thereafter, a member of Our Lady of Peace Church, in Milmont Park.
Gina is a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She was devoted to her family and quite well known for her cooking and baking. She specialized in homemade Italian pasta dishes, including lasagna, ravioli, and meatballs; and delicious desserts, including pineapple upside down cakes, cherry cheesecakes, and fruit pies. She also developed an expertise in cake decoration. She would annually can tomatoes and help her husband and children in the making of homemade wine and soppressata, the cured, dry sausage of southern Italy.
Gina also was an avid gardener with a green thumb, and liked to sew and knit. She loved the beach at the South Jersey shore, often spending summer vacation in Wildwood. She traveled back to Italy several times to visit her family there and entertained many Italian friends and relatives when they traveled to the United States.
Gina is the youngest of seven children of Antonio Cristiano and Rosa Mirarchi Cristiano. Two of her siblings died in childhood and one brother was killed in World War II.
Gina has three sons, Saverio Mirarchi (Claire DiNunzio Mirarchi) of Brooklyn Heights, NY; Claudio Mirarchi (Margaret Walker Mirarchi) of Swedesboro and Ventnor, NJ; and Anthony Mirarchi (Nancy Concannon Mirarchi) of West Chester, PA; seven grandchildren, Adriana (Pasquale), Elizabeth (Ryan), Luisa (Cody), Joseph, Alexander, Christina, and Lisa; and five great-grandchildren, Giuliana, Matteo, Roman, Gemma, and Luca. She also has several nephews, nieces, and cousins in Italy and the United States.
