Evelyn S. McCormick, 97

Longtime Ridley Park Resident


Evelyn S. McCormick, 97, died September 1, 2011 at Wilmington General Hospital. Mrs. McCormick was born in Atlantic City, NJ and has lived in Ridley Park since 1954, previously residing in Chester.


She was employed by Widener University in the Registrar's Office retiring in 1997 and previously work at Strawbridge & Clothier. She was a member of Ridley Park U.M. Church for over 50 years. Mrs. McCormick volunteered with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile in Chester and Wallingford, also the Taylor Heart Station, she was also a member of the Young at Heart.


She was wife of the late Thomas J. McCormick, Jr. who died in 1975, mother of the late Thomas J. McCormick, III (Grace) and daughter of the late Ellenzie Sunfield and Bervania Jacobsen Shaw.


Survivors: mother of Barbara M. Chandler and Diane M. Johnson (Lloyd), sister of Betty Sides, Emily Elliott, Eileen Coffroth and Jean Haas. Grandmother of Pam Chandler, Glen Chandler (Erik Runner), Elaine Chandler McVicker (Shawn), Tommy McCormick (Dan Lessard), Kathy Savage, Jill Dean, Paul McCormick, Robin McCormick, Terri Sorantino (Rob), and Chris Harmon (Pete) also survived by nine great-grandchildren, and her longtime companion Jack Griffith.


Funeral Service: 10 AM Saturday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Avenue, Ridley Park.


Visitation: after 9 AM at the funeral home.


Burial: Lawn Croft Cemetery.
