Obituary

Emily Porter Ignatuk, 95, of Tustin, CA, formerly of Woodlyn, PA, died March 8, 2020, at Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, CA. Born in 1924 in Upland, PA, and raised in Marcus Hook, PA, Emily was the daughter of the late Joseph R. Porter and the late Margaret Loughead Porter. Emily was a graduate of Eddystone High School, class of 1942, where she was a cheerleader and a member of the girls' basketball team, and where she met her future husband, Nicholas Ignatuk.

During World War II, Emily worked for the British Army, stationed at the Ford Motor Co. in Chester, PA, where they manufactured tanks for the Allied armed forces. After the war, Emily was the private secretary to the president of the American Viscose Co., Research Division, in Marcus Hook. She retired from work to raise her family. In 1966 she returned to work as an executive secretary at Scott Paper Co. Research Library in Tinicum Twp., PA. She retired at age 62.

Emily was an active member of the Woodlyn Baptist Church, where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and volunteer. When her children were young, she held weekly "Good News Clubs" in her home after school, in which she shared her faith with neighborhood children, telling them stories from the Bible. Emily enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family, and she delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In 2011 she moved to California to live with her son Ronald and his three sons.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Nicholas Ignatuk, who died in 2010; and her brother, Joseph R. Porter, Jr., and sister, Margaret "Sis" Porter Jenkins. She is survived by her sons, Nicholas (Elizabeth), Ronald, and Robert (Barbara); a nephew, David (Catherine) Jenkins; eight grandchildren, James (Melissa), Jean, Kevin (Caroline), Michael, Christine, Alexander, Sean, and Jackson; and five great-grandchildren, Anya, Jonathan, Tiegan, Nadya, and Matthew.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
