Elsie H. Witman

Elsie H. Witman, 92, of Maris Grove passed away on January 13, 2026. Born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late John Turner and Helen Krewson Hadfield, she had lived in Havertown, Ridley Township and Upper Providence before moving to Maris Grove in 2006.

Elsie was a graduate of Haverford High School, class of 1951. Elsie enjoyed working at Newtown Jewelers and Wells Fargo Bank (formerly 1st Fidelity), before retiring to spend more time with her family and enjoy her hobbies. She was a member of Christ Church (Episcopal) in Ridley Park, where she was a former member of the Altar Guild and a volunteer at many church events. While living at Maris Grove, she was very active in that retirement community. Elsie participated in many of the classes available to residents, volunteered at The Treasure Chest, and was a member of the Scholarship Committee. Elsie's hobbies included gardening, sewing, and playing cards with many of her friends. She was an AVID fan of the Phillies, Eagles and Flyers, but most important to her was her family.

She was the loving wife of the late J. Thomas Witman, who died on March 18, 2010 after 54 years of marriage, the mother of Pam Witman (Mark Sponhauer) and Carol W. Colavita (Mauro), grandmother of Matthew (Lauren), Elizabeth and Jonathan Colavita and great-grandmother of Alexander Colavita.

Services and burial were held privately.
