Elizabeth Jane McDowell, 69 of Media, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2013 at Taylor Hospice Residence after fighting a courageous battle.

Elizabeth "BJ" was born in Chester, raised in Essington and graduated from Ridley Park High School. She was a former hairdresser and waitress, and especially enjoyed waitressing at Walbers, The Brass Ladle Bistro, Penn Oaks Golf Club and The Little Inn.

She enjoyed spending time with her high school friends at her class reunion meetings, as well as at the gatherings after. She was truly a good friend to many, as well as a second mom to many. BJ enjoyed vacationing in Port Herman with her family and has many memories of living on Taylor Avenue in Essington.

Holidays were everything to BJ; she couldn't wait to decorate shop and cook for her family. She has made many traditions that our family will continue to enjoy for years to come. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Jake, Brendan and Brianna and her great nephew Seth. Family and friends were everything to her and she will be missed by all.

She was wife of the late Robert R. McDowell, Jr. and daughter of the late John P. Dougherty.

Funeral Service 5:00PM Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 576 Concord Rd., Glen Mills, PA where friends may call after 4:00PM.

Burial private.
