Obituary

Elizabeth L. "Betty" Gear Moyer, 96, of Ridley Park died October 11, 2016 at Brinton Manor. Born and raised in Glenolden, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Frances Slocum Lafferty and resided in Bethel Twp. before moving to her late residence in 1985.

Betty was a graduate of Glen-Nor High School, class of 1938 and was employed by Container Research Co., Glen Riddle, as a bookkeeper retiring in 1983, but continued to get called upon to do minimal work. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Folcroft. She was also a member and Past President of the John Wesley Cross American Legion Post 507 Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW Post 7213 Le Van-Smith-Raibley Ladies Auxiliary. Betty also served as Past District 7 President of the VFWA and Past District 8 President of the ALA.

She began volunteering with the American National Red Cross "Volunteer Special Services" and completed the Nurse's Aid Corps Course conducted by the Southeastern PA Chapter. Her certificate was issued in Washington, DC in July 1943 and was signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Chapter Chairman Harry Hauser. Betty volunteered with the USO in Phila. during Desert Storm helping to prepare comfort to service guests on layovers or late evening flights. She also volunteered at the old Navy Hospitals in Coatesville and Elsmere, DE, the Perry Point VA Medical Center in Maryland and the Philadelphia VA Medical Center.

Early on, Betty was known as a dress and costume maker and was quite creative. Later, she spent time china painting, oil painting and collecting dolls. Elizabeth's greatest gift was making and dressing reproductions of antique dolls.


Betty was predeceased by her husbands, Charles Robert Gear, Jr. and Monroe A. Moyer and her one day old infant son, Robert Richard Gear.

Survivors: mother of Lois Jean McFall, with whom she resided, Carol Robin Robinson of Florida and Monroe Robert Moyer; grandmother of Jean Louise Klunk of Ridley Park, Suzanne Wimmer of Boothwyn, Kevin Michael McFall of Schwenksville, Amanda Renee Newell of Lancaster and M. Jason Moyer; also survived by nine great grandchildren

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park, PA 19078, where friends may call after 9:00 AM

Burial: Lawn Croft Cemetery
