Eleanor J. Thompson, 80, the Grand Matriarch of the Thompson Family, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the Crozer-Keystone Hospice in Taylor Hospital, Ridley Park, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 29, 1933, in Philadelphia, PA to William Yager Groves and Helen Elena Walsh.

Eleanor grew up in South Philadelphia. She graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic H.S. for Girls in 1951. After high school Eleanor held several temporary and part-time jobs but none was more important than her full time job of successfully raising her five children.

Eleanor married Edward Thompson in 1956 in Philadelphia, PA at St. Stella Maris Catholic Church. They were happily married for 57 years. Eleanor was an active and proud civic member in her community. She was an original member of the Leedom Little League, Ridley Jr. ABA, the Prospect Park Termites and Nassau Swim Club. She was also a proud and dedicated homeroom mother and teacher's aid at Leedom Elementary School in the Ridley School District. She enjoyed attending all of her children's athletic events and dutifully followed them from community teams to high school teams and through college. In her spare time she enjoyed romance novels, Irish music, Tom Jones impersonations, scenic rides with her husband, soaking up the sun and sand at the beach, playing Michigan Rummy with her family and celebrating New Year's with her world famous party hats.

Eleanor is survived by her spouse, Edward of the Leedom Estates Section of Ridley Township; her five children: Barbara Chambers, Gary Thompson (Lisa), Terri Thompson (Cherie), Brian Thompson (Debbie) and Glenn Thompson (Jane); her eight grandchildren Kelly and Kasey Chambers, Haley, Liam and Riley Thompson, Mikaila and Lily Thompson and Valerie Thompson; her brother Raymond Groves; and many nieces and nephews.
