Obituary

Eileen C. Prendergast Getek, 93, died on February 13, 2022 at her home in Prospect Park, surrounded by her family.

Eileen grew up and lived most of her life in the West End of Chester, where she and her husband Clarence "Hogan" Getek, raised their six children. The couple moved to Prospect Park in 1980. Hogan passed away in 2008, after their 57 years of marriage.

The youngest of six children of the late John and Margaret Keane Prendergast, Eileen grew up on West 10th Street near Booth Street. She attended Resurrection Grade School and graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School for Girls, Moylan, Class of 1947. Eileen and Hogan met in 1950 at a wedding in Chester. They were married in July 1951. Their first born, Margaret, arrived in 1953 and the family moved to Clover Lane in Buckman Village. They later moved to West 10th Street, a few doors down from where she had grown up.

With her children growing older, she re-entered the workforce and was employed for 30 years as an Admissions Clerk at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, retiring in 2000.Eileen was an active member of the Resurrection Women's Club while her children attended Rez. After the family moved to Prospect Park, they joined the Church of St. Madeline. In retirement, she was active at the School House Senior Center in Folsom. Eileen was an avid reader. She loved World War II movies and the family's many trips to Sea Isle, but most important to Eileen was her family.

Eileen was the sister of the late Mary Voigt, Nancy O'Hara, Kate Podgajny, Peggy Stevens and Jack Prendergast.

She is survived by her children; Margaret "Peg" Getek, Eleanor Charitonchick (Joe), Andi Mulshine (Paul), Kate McHenry (late Joe), Martin Getek and Jack Getek (Jennifer), also 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass 10:30 AM Saturday, February 19, 2022 at The Church of St. Madeline, 400 Morton Ave., Ridley Park where relative and friends may call 9:00 to 10:15 AM. Burial private.
