Edwin F. Mawhinney, 92, retired technical writer/editor, a resident of Riddle Village in Lima, died April 21, 2013 at Bryn Mawr Hospital.
Born in 1920, Edwin was reared in West Philadelphia and graduated from West Catholic High School in 1937. He had lived in Delaware County since 1955, in Upper Darby, Media, and Glen Riddle. Edwin served as a non-commissioned officer in the US Army Air Corps, '42-'45. He attended radio, radar, radio navigation, and aerial gunnery schools, saw duty in the Southwest Pacific as air crew member and navigation instructor. He wrote and self-published a humorous memoir, 'Sergeant, May I Say A Few Words?', about his experiences in the Air Corps. After WW II, he obtained a radiotelephone license, attended several technical schools and colleges for writing and technical subjects. He worked as a telephone equipment installer, government inspector, sound engineer, and radio station engineer.
He worked as technical writer/editor for Boeing-Vertol, retiring in '85. After retirement, he worked as publications consultant for Eaton/Tedeco.
He was the son of Edwin F., Sr. and Catherine V. Mawhinney (nee Grady). He is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa, by a brother, Robert, and a sister, Julia Scanzo. Three sisters, Alma Stephens, Rosemarie Steffney, and Catherine Frisch predeceased him. A daughter, Maureen Mawhinney-Hee, died in 2000.
