Obituary

Edward Harold Racine, Jr. (Ed), passed away peacefully from terminal cancer on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the age of 75.

Ed was born on Christmas Eve 1946 in Chester, PA.  He was raised in Aston Mills having lived most of his life in Aston Township before moving to Marcus Hook.  He had resided in Lansdowne for the past 8 years.

Ed attended grade school at St. Francis de Sales in Lenni, PA and graduated from St. James High School, Chester, PA in 1965.

In the 1970's Ed was employed by Sun Shipbuilding & Drydock Co., in Chester, Pa as a merchant mariner steam fitting specialist.  He then spent the next 15 years working in management of valve design and restoration for E.J. Henwood & Sons Co., Inc. in Glenolden, PA.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Edward Harold Racine Sr. (Dickel), his mother, Martha Karlunas Racine-Grant (Mickey), his step-mother Mary Racine, his step-father Tommy Grant (Bingo), his brother John (Jack, Hawk) Racine and his sister Debra Grant.

Ed loved to socialize.  He had a knack for conversation and telling jokes.  He truly enjoyed making people laugh.  Many have described him as handsome, charismatic and lively.  He was a lifelong, faithful fan of Elvis.  He didn't need to be surrounded by memorabilia to feel connected, he simply loved the man and his music. House parties weren't complete until he broke out in tune with a PBR mic and dish towel scarf.  When karaoke came along, he was ready. It was another way for him to express his love of singing.

Ed played little league baseball and men's softball with many of the same guys who remained friends for years. He was a Philly sports fan in general but interested in just about anything athletic.  He liked to shoot pool, play cards, bowl, golf and ride the bumper cars at amusement parks. He was very competitive and it showed. He enjoyed watching professional boxing but would never pass up a chance to watch a Rocky movie.

He was a natural at entertaining and rarely turned down an invitation to hang out with family and friends.  It's been said, he never wanted the fun to end. Ed was so easy to talk to he could turn a stranger to a friend in less than ten minutes.  He was an intriguing conversationalist but could also bullshit with the best of them. Ed was a very intelligent man with an incredible memory.  His aptitude for calculating math in his head was quite impressive.

Ed is survived by his three children, son Ed Racine III (Diane) of Aston. Daughters Denise Miller (Dave) of Garnet Valley and Melissa Racine (Joe) of Marcus Hook.  Two Nieces, Barbara Ann Racine-Kerezsi of Millsboro, DE and Erin Tuohey of Aston. Ed had seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Burial is private.

**In lieu of flowers or donations Ed's children only ask that you take a few minutes to learn about bipolar disorder.  Awareness is key to recognizing the signs.  Finding help is critical for those trying to cope with this life altering condition.  One person challenged by the effects of bipolar disorder means every single person in their life is directly affected.  It's not depression or anxiety or imaginary, it's debilitating on so many levels.  Thank you and please spread the word.
