Obituary

Edmund (Ed) Kozak, age 87, died peacefully on February 4, 2018 with his family at his side. Ed was born in September 1930 in Mahanoy City, PA to Michael and Violet Kozak. He graduated from Mahanoy City High School and served in the U.S. Army. After his service he met his wife, Mildred (Millie) Troyanosky, and they were married in 1957. During their early years, Ed and Millie welcomed three children, Mark, Marie, and Lisa (Elizabeth). In addition to his work and family responsibilities, Ed graduated from the Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) in 1966 with a B.S. degree in Engineering. He worked for Sinclair/BP Oil Refinery in Marcus Hook for over 30 years before retirement. Ed was an avid sports fan and served as a basketball coach for the Ridley Park Athletic Club. Among his accomplishments, he developed the first basketball program for young girls in Ridley Park. He and his family created and published a newsletter for the Ridley Park Athletic Club.

Ed and Millie then enjoyed travelling throughout the United States and visiting many historical sites. Ed in his lifetime visited all 50 states. As they greeted grandchildren, they provided help to all. He was a devoted parishioner at St Madeline's for over 60 years. Ed enjoyed nature and bird watching. He was an amazing Mr. Fix-It around the house and with cars. In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing with friends at various golf courses in the tri-state area.

Ed built a legacy of love and generosity. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his immediate and extended family. He was a faith-filled man who was a regular at the early morning Mass on Sundays. He loved music and enjoyed singing and dancing – both the jitterbug and the Polka. Ed was a regular blood donor with the American Red Cross. He was also a walking encyclopedia – full of statistical facts with sports, historical events, geography, and languages. In 1954, Millie encouraged Ed to enter a radio contest to predict the starting line-up for Major League Baseball's All-Star game. He won! Ed was awarded two tickets to see the game in Cleveland in July 1954. We all won by knowing Ed and having him touch our lives. He is called Mr. Terrific, Mr. Wonderful and Mr. Nice Guy USA.

Ed will be remembered for his quick wit and easy banter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Virginia Fritz. He is and will be missed by his wife of over 60 years, his son, Mark Kozak (Page) and their children, Anne, Michael and David; his daughter, Marie Kozak and her children, Mary Joy and Madeline Rose; and his daughter, Lisa Kozak, and her children, Jillian and Thomas.

For a life well-lived and well-loved, Ed's family wants to thank our families, cousins, friends, neighbors, parishioners and everyone who has walked this road with us – for caring about Ed. His life is a beautiful one to remember.
