1918-2015
Dorothy C. Turner Smitham, 97, a lifelong resident of Aston passed peacefully into the arms of her loving Savior on December 4, 2015. Born in Aston Mills she was daughter of the late Raymond D. and Margaret Platt Turner. She was a graduate of Chester High School, class of 1936. Dottie had previously worked at the Chester Times (now Delaware County Daily Times) and was a partner at Schad's Milk Express until retiring in 1985.
Dottie had a strong faith and was the oldest member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years, was a member of the Joy Class and served God wherever she was needed giving Him all the glory. She was an avid reader who read her Bible daily. Dottie's knitting skills were exceptional and produced beautiful work which often became cherished gifts. Until a recent illness, she remained in her own home under the care of her son with help of two caregivers, Margaret Hall and Joy Peirce, their care, compassion and kindness are greatly appreciated.
She was wife of the late Russell J. Smitham who died in 1987 after 46 years of marriage.
Survivors: mother of Carol S. VanNote (William) and R. Lee Smitham, grandmother of Amy V. Frankovich (James) and Vicki V. Goettel (Philip), sister of Kathryn T. Habbersett, as well as three great-grandchildren who brought her great joy, Connor and Morgan Goettel and Peyton Frankovich.
Funeral Service: 1 PM Wednesday at Mt. Hope U.M. Church, 4020 Concord Rd. Aston, PA 19014 where friends may call after 12 noon. Burial Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dottie's memory may be made to the above church.
