Dorothy Meck Kurkis, 90 of Wilmington, DE (formerly Aston, PA) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 9, 2016. Dorothy was born in Lancaster, PA, and was the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Margaret E. (Schwartz) Meck. Dorothy was a graduate of McCaskey High School, class of 1943. Dot walked to work each day at the Armstrong Cork Company in the accounting department from her family home on N. Mary Street, just around the corner from Franklin & Marshall College where she met her husband of 63 years on the tennis court.
In her younger years Dorothy enjoyed playing softball and tennis. She had a lifelong love of bridge (or any card game) and reading. After starting a family she devoted her time to raising four children and caring for her family. Like her husband, she was an enduring fan of the Phillies, Eagles and Penn State Football. She enjoyed traveling with John after his retirement as they followed the Spartanburg Phillies around the Carolina's as well as spending winters in Florida with friends.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, John Kurkis and her brother, Virgil A. Meck of Willow Street, PA.
She is survived by her four children John (Sharon) of Roswell, GA, Beth (Walter) Perdue of West Chester, PA, Jeff (Tina) of Spartanburg, SC and Sandee (Chuck) McClain with whom she resided. "Mom Mom" loved her grandchildren; Dr. Greg Kurkis and his wife Corinne, Kelly McClain, Jesse Caroline and John C. Kurkis and will be remembered as a sweet, kind Mom-Mom. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Maxine Meck of Phoenixville, PA. The family would like to thank the team of caregivers from Heartland Hospice and Karen Brown for her love and care.
Interment at Boehm's Chapel Cemetery will be private.
