Doris Driscoll Condren, 81, died quietly at her home of 43 years on October 18, 2015. Her independent spirit and outgoing personality will be missed by many.
She was born in Manhattan and raised In Maplewood, New Jersey. Doris was the daughter of William J . Driscoll and Edythe Beers Driscoll.
She was the middle child of three siblings . They were close and maintained wonderful, lifelong relationships. Her elder sister, Electa Baker, predeceased Doris on November 1, 2010 . Her younger brother, Bill Driscoll, resides in Columbus, Ohio with his wife Phyllis. Doris graduated from Elmira College in 1957.
Doris' husband of 55 years, Raymond James Condren, Sr., predeceased her on June 8, 2014. Doris and Red, as he was fondly known, met as teenagers and were wed on Valentine's Day in 1959.
As a young woman, Doris was an accomplished hiker and camp counselor . She summered for many years at her beloved Hawkeye Trails in Upstate NY where she met many of her lifelong friends. Doris climbed most of the significant peaks in the Adirondacks including Mount Marcy, Algonquin Peak and Whiteface Mountain.
Tennis was also an important part of Doris' life. She competed at the local cup league level and continued to play well into her 70's. She also spent many years serving as a team captain and was a certified USTA Line Judge.
Doris and Red shared an enormous passion for everything that made Swarthmore special. Together, they enjoyed the annual Fourth of July festivities and the bi-annual town Christmas Pageant. The also loved attending music programs and lectures at Swarthmore College.
For many years Doris was a dedicated volunteer working on behalf of numerous organizations including Meals on Wheels, the F.I.S.H. of Swarthmore/Wallingford, and the Red Cross. Most recently, she served as hostess for the Gathering Place. She was also a familiar and friendly face welcoming voters at the local election polls.
Doris is survived by her two children, Amy Budinger (Philip) of Manhattan, and Raymond Condren, Jr. (Julie) of Westfield, NJ. She also leaves behind four adored grandchildren, Kelly, Jackson Faith, Anna Ray and Raymond III as well as a number of beloved nieces and nephews.
