Obituary

Donald Alexander Little, 93, of Ridley Park, died November 29, 2012 at Taylor Hospice Residence.

Born in Detroit, MI, he was one of ten children, and the eldest son of the late Alexander and Mary Thorpe Little.

After graduating John J. Pershing High School in Detroit, he enlisted in the U.S.Navy in 1938. While on leave during WWII, he met the former Helen Mutro of Chester, at a roller-skating rink. They were married on September 10, 1943.

During his distinguished 20 year Naval career Mr. Little served at many duty stations, and on many ships, but most enjoyed his time spent on the USS Omaha (CL-4). Mr. Little served in both WWII and the Korean War.

In 1956, the Little's moved to Ridley Park. Shortly thereafter, he retired from the Navy as a Chief Gunner's Mate, and was hired as a civil servant with the Marine Corps Supply in Philadelphia. After 37 years of government service, he retired in 1975, and enjoyed his retirement golfing, bowling, traveling, gardening and spoiling his twin granddaughters.

The Little's have been members of Our Lady of Peace Parish for over 50 years.

Mr. Little was a devoted and loving husband, brother, father and grandfather, respected colleague, good friend and neighbor. His family and friends will miss his perpetual smile, warm spirit and easy laughter. He loved life, and shared his optimism and good humor with all he encountered.

Donald was father of the late Donald Robert Little and was predeceased by eight siblings.
