Dolores Kostyk passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2026 shortly after her 89th birthday with her son at her side. holding her hand. Born in Chester, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Pondok Shereba.
She was full of the happiest stories from her childhood! Long road trips with her parents, the hair-raising Pike's Peak descent being a favorite. School at Holy Ghost in Chester, then Eddystone High (voted "most dependable," she sometimes mentioned). Local country music weekends, and summers at her Aunt Anna's in Nesquehoning, swimming in Lake Hauto, and attending Camp Greenwood.
She was a working mom decades before that was a thing, raising two young boys while working as a secretary. In later years, she volunteered as a teacher's aide at Lakeview Elementary, then worked as a clerk at the orthodontic office in Ridley Park, cherishing both experiences and making lifelong friends. She had a passion for holiday decorating, especially for Christmas and Easter, all flowers, wreaths, themed tablecloths, music, warmth, and love. Her favorite song was Anne Murray's "Could I Have This Dance," a love song from 1980 (not the fifties or sixties!), which reminded her of her husband Walter, who predeceased her. She enjoyed doing the Daily Times word puzzle up to her final days with us.
Her Catholic faith was a mainstay of her life, piety she learned from a young age at both parents' knee. She was a dedicated parishioner at Holy Ghost Church in Chester, then Holy Myrrh Bearers in Woodlyn. Her comforting spirit and generous ways were the guiding light for her children and grandchildren, while she was always ready with kind words and sincere sentiments for family and friends. Her last months were filled with joy and happiness, reminiscing with the many visitors who dropped by to chat, which both she and the family greatly appreciated, and above all, she was the most amazing mom!
Dolores was the loving wife of the late Walter W. Kostyk who died on February 13, 2014 after 55 years of marriage, the mother of Walter J. Kostyk and William J. Kostyk (Kimberly) and grandmother of Stephen, Andrew and Aaron Kostyk.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Holy Myrrh-Bearers Ukrainian Catholic Church, 900 Fairview Road, Swarthmore, PA 19081 where a visitation will take place from 9 to 9:45 AM. Burial SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the above church would be appreciated.
