Dennis M. Ward
Boothwyn, Pennsylvania
1959 – 2025
Dennis M. Ward of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, passed away at home on May 28, 2025.
Dennis was a man of few words but limitless dependability. Quiet on the outside but fiercely loyal, he showed affection not through speeches or grand gestures, but through action: fixing your sink without being asked, plowing your driveway before sunrise, or showing up unannounced to quietly make something right—and often better than it was before. His generosity extended beyond friends and family; Dennis never hesitated to help a neighbor he barely knew or a stranger who needed a hand—no thanks necessary or expected.
As many said, "If Dennis didn't have the tool you needed, it probably didn't exist." One look at his basement was proof of that. It wasn't just a collection of tools—it was a monument to his skill, work ethic, quiet kindness, and belief that a job worth doing is worth doing right.
Born in Ridley Park, PA, and later moved to Boothwyn, Dennis graduated from Ridley High School in 1978. He earned his journeyman plumber certification in 1983 through the Philadelphia Suburban Association of Plumbing Contractors' 5-year Apprenticeship program, and his Master Plumber's Certification in 2000.
He worked as a plumber for over 40 years in the Crozer-Keystone Health System, beginning at Springfield Hospital in 1983 and later at Crozer Hospital until its closure in May 2025.
In his free time, Dennis enjoyed canoeing and kayaking on the Brandywine River, woodworking, and relaxing at his beach house in Fenwick Island, DE. He especially looked forward to Thursday night "boat club" outings with his lifelong friends. He had an impressive Hawaiian shirt collection which he wore proudly and often. Above all, Dennis treasured time with his family and the many friends he considered part of his family.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Mariann Ward (Black), and his daughter Ann K. Ward, who was the light of his life and brought him immeasurable joy every day. He is also survived by his sister Deborah Ward; and brother Kevin Ward (Teri). He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Grant and Rita (Baptiste) Ward, and brother, Grant Ward Jr.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 5, 2025 beginning at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM at St. Madeline's Catholic Church, 400 Morton Ave., Ridley Park, PA. In true Dennis fashion—and in keeping with his well-known dislike of suits—guests are encouraged to wear their favorite tropical shirts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Dennis's name to the Abramson Cancer Center at The University of Pennsylvania at http://givingpages.upenn.edu/rememberingDennis or to https://bulkfoodsdelco.com/pages/dennis-ward-donation - or simply fix something for someone who can't, lend a helping hand without being asked, and keep a roll of duct tape in your truck, just like Dennis would have done.
