David Michael O'Neill, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Ridley Park, PA on October 22, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was married to the love of his life, Constance M. O'Neill (née Bradley) for 42 years before her passing in 2003.
David was born in Philadelphia to John and Margaret O'Neill, one of six brothers and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, John, Gerald, Robert, James and Joseph; and his sister, Margaret Kane.
David had a 42-year career as a machinist with Nice Ball Bearing Company in Lansdale, PA and was a member of the Steelworkers Union. "Ace" loved playing golf and cards with his brothers and lifelong friends but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. David was a devoted family man, supporting his children in their educational pursuits and every endeavor. David coached his children and many other young people in football and baseball at Our Lady of Peace in Milmont Park, as well as girls softball in Leedom alongside his son, David, Jr. As a grandfather, David was his grandchildren's biggest fan- there for any baseball games, basketball games, swim meets, wrestling matches, Eagle Scouts events, cross country meets, school concerts and school plays, cheerleading competitions and dance recitals. He played video games, card games, read endless stories and admired sewing projects. He encouraged, advised and allowed his grandchildren to rely on his patience and wisdom as a confidant. He would meet each child where they were and elevate them at their own speed, under his gentle guidance. He treasured each opportunity to show his endless encouragement and support. His constant presence and the impact of his infinite love have forever shaped our lives.
David is survived by his children: Constance M. McDevitt (John), David M. O'Neill, Jr. (Madeline), Stephen W. O'Neill and Colleen B. Hoffecker (Robert); 11 grandchildren: Thomas (Samantha), Lauren (Edward), Matthew, Jack, Stephen (Kelly), Patrick, Kristin (Thomas), Michael, Robert, Ryan and Rachel; and one great-grandson, Julian. In addition, he is survived by his dear sisters, Rosemary Ryan (David) and Judith Reiner; and many loving nieces and nephews.David was there for his family in big ways and small ways, through life's celebrations and tragedies, and the everyday moments. He lived his life with humor, integrity, sincerity and humility. Although he will be forever deeply missed, he lives on in the hearts of all those who love him.
