Darlene M. Mowll
Nurse, always caring for others
Darlene Marie Mowll passed away on January 5 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (Philadelphia) following treatment for adenocarcinoma and stroke, she was 64 years old. Darlene was one of eleven children of James and Rita McLaughlin and was born in Chester, Pennsylvania. Darlene and her husband lived in Lewes, Delaware for the past three years after living in Naperville, Illinois for over 20 years and several years in New Jersey.
Darlene was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and friend to many. As a teenager, Darlene started volunteering at the local nursing home in Chester and soon was inspired to go into nursing. First becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse and latter becoming a Registered Nurse after completing her Associates Degree in Nursing at Delaware Technical and Community College. Darlene was also proud that she had graduated from Notre Dame High School in Media, Pennsylvania. Darlene was a nurse at Crozer Chester Medical Center and Riddle Memorial Hospital and a home care nurse with Princeton Medical Center, Princeton, New Jersey. Darlene spent her life caring for others. From raising her two sons, Ryan and Christopher, to being a loving and supportive wife to her nursing career and following her retirement from nursing, as a pre-school teacher. Mrs. Mowll, as all her son's friends new here, was the neighborhood "mom" often feeding them and providing counsel. She was also an avid gardener and loved raising vegetables and sunflowers. One year, she planted peas (the vegetable) instead of Sweet Pea flowers around our front mailbox, and we laughed all summer long as we had peas instead of flowers. Darlene always put others' needs above her own. After the birth of her granddaughter Elin in 2014, "Beach Grammy" would just light with happiness every time they were together, reading or drawing or playing make-believe.
Darlene is survived by her husband of 36 years, Chuck, sons Ryan and Christopher and step-son Brian, granddaughter Elin, and step-grandchildren Nic, Annie, Mason, and Max. She is also survived by her twin-sister Denise, sisters Cheryl, Nancy, Kathleen, and brothers Richard, Robert, and Michael.
Funeral Mass 10:30 AM Thursday, January 10, 2019 at The Church of St. Madeline, 400 Morton Ave., Ridley Park, PA where relatives and friends may call 9:15 to 10:15 AM. Burial private.
