Dr. Curtis L. Shumaker, 80, of Springfield, died September 2, 2011 at his home.
Born in Nyack, NY, he was a longtime resident of Ridley Park before moving to his late residence twelve years ago.
Dr. Shumaker was Curriculum Director at Southeast Delco School District for 15 years, retiring in 1991. He was a Licensed PA Investment Counselor and was an Account Executive for Lincoln Investment Planning and was also a partner for Anchor Court Associates, LLC.
Dr. Shumaker graduated from Kutztown State College with a B.S. Degree in Education, the University of Pennsylvania with a M.S. Degree in Educational Administration, completed Graduate Course Work at Penn State University and received his Doctor of Education from Temple University.
His memberships include the Ridley Park Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, the Board of Managers at the Ridley Area YMCA, Prospect Lodge #578 F.& A.M., Public Schools Principal Association, the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals, the Salvation Army and the Phi Delta Kappa, University of Pennsylvania. He also received the Legion of Honor Award - Chapel of the Four Chaplains.
He was husband of the late Barbara J. Grohowski Shumaker, his wife of 31 years, who died May 29, 1992, son of the late Mack and Etta Wolle Shumaker and brother of the late Ronald Shumaker.
Survivors: His children; Mark J. Shumaker (Monica) and Becky J. Sauerwald (Kevin), his brother; Douglas Shumaker, his sister Irene Morgan, also grandchildren Ty, Arianna, Logan, Allisyn and Aubrey, his dearest friend Jane Campbell and one niece and one nephew.
Funeral Service 10:00AM Friday, September 9, 2011 at the Ridley Park Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park. Visitation 6;00 to 9:00 PM Thursday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park.
Burial Edgewood Memorial Park.
