Charles M. Dunn, 89, of Glen Mills died on November 18, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Bullard, Texas, he was the son of the late Randolph and Viola Dunn.
Charles' family eventually moved to Philadelphia. He attended South Philadelphia High School for Boys then joined the Air Force where he was a Staff Sargent in the Radio Corp stationed in Landsberg, Germany. After serving in the Air Force, he became a member of the Steamfitters local 420 Union. As an apprentice, he won first place in the 7th Annual International Apprentice Contest of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry hosted at Purdue University. He became an instructor for the local 420 Apprenticeship and joined the Herman Goldner Company where he worked for most of his career and became the General Manager of Construction. Charles was also a member of the Mechanical Contractors Association.
Charles was a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church where he volunteered on many projects especially on the building committee in which his impressive work earcned him an invitation as a consultant to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's building and planning committee for new churches and schools. Charles enjoyed golfing, gardening, skiing, sailing, and traveling, but most important was his love and dedication to his family. He was charming and kind, a true Southern gentleman. His charismatic personality and love for a good conversation made him a friend to all. He met the love of his life at just 18 years old and together they created the most beautiful love story. Charles was a dedicated family man, an incredible father and grandfather who exemplified what it meant to be a good man. It was an honor to know him and to be loved by him. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Cecilia Dunn. He was the father of Charles G. Dunn (Sonseeahray), Cecilia "Babe" Cowley (Michael), Steven Dunn (Margie), Michael Dunn (Dottie), Victoria Giunta (Frank), Robert Dunn (Phyllis), Regina Dunn, Beverly Berzins (Brian), Joseph Dunn (June), Kathleen Glikes (Richard), Lorraine Carreira (Paul), Diane Benedek (Stephen), Juliette Dunn and the late James Dunn and Roger G. Dunn, brother of Polly Attorri and the late Frances Sacchetta. Charles is survived by 37 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and was grandfather of the late Joseph Dunn, Jr., Jennifer Dunn and Bryan Dunn.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 430 Valleybrook Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342. Additional visitation at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church from 9:15 to 10:15 AM Wednesday, November 29, 2023, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Burial in the adjoining church cemetery.
