Carol Smitham Van Note, 74, a resident of Wilmington, DE, passed peacefully into the arms of her loving Savior on December 5, 2017 surrounded by love and her immediate family.
Born in Chester, PA she was the daughter of the late Dorothy C. Smitham and Russell J. Smitham, both of Aston, PA. She was a graduate of Chester High School, class of 1961. Carol started her professional career at Scott Paper in Chester, PA before deciding to stay home and raise her two daughters. As they grew, Carol re-entered the professional work place and was a Meeting Planner at DuPont Merck Pharmaceuticals until retiring in 1999.
Carol was the loving wife to William R. Van Note who she married in 1965 and just recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. She was the devoted mother of Amy V. Frankovich (James) and Vicki V. Goettel (Philip), sister of R. Lee Smitham as well as the cherished Dearie to her three grandchildren, Connor and Morgan Goettel and Peyton Frankovich, all who brought her the greatest joy.
Carol had a strong faith, enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to music, and attended services at Brandywine Valley Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and worshiping with her friends. Growing up Carol attended Mt. Hope United Methodist Church where she was baptized, attended Sunday School, was married, and later was a youth group leader with her husband, Bill. She raised her children to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ and instilled a strong faith in both of them. She also passed along to them her love of travel and they often went on family vacations. Her greatest loves were her husband, 2 daughters and her 3 grandchildren and enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible, both at home and at the beach on Long Beach Island, NJ.
In 1999 Carol received a life-saving lung transplant at the University of Pennsylvania. As a result she was given the gift of life and blessed with over 18 additional years with her family and close friends enjoying, and valuing, her time with each of them.
Funeral Services will be held 6:30 PM Monday, December 11th, at Mt. Hope U.M. Church, 4020 Concord Rd. Aston, PA 19014 with visitation to follow in Habbersett Hall.
