Carmella E. "Betty" Pyle Ernest, 90, of Swarthmore, died on June 27, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late William and Carmella D'Esposito Pyle and lived in Prospect Park before moving to her late residence 61 years ago.
Betty was a graduate of Prospect Park High School, class of 1944 and a member of the Notre Dame de Lourdes R.C. Church. She was a homemaker whose hobbies turned into passions. Betty was an expert seamstress, detailed ceramic painter and an attentive first mate on all the boats she and her husband, George, owned. Above all else, Mom was the beating heart of the family. Her love, tenderness and compassion proved to be the constant all of us could depend on.
Betty was the loving wife of George M. Ernest, her husband of 67 years; devoted mother of Lorraine Giberson and Nanette Ridgley (Tom); cherished grandmother of Melissa Herrin (Dennis) and Nathan Ridgley; sister of Doris Schrader (Eugene); aunt of Wayne, Paul and Eugene Schrader; also survived by her lifelong friend, Patsy Green and her loving caregiver, Judy Strickler.
