Carl E. Nelson, 89 of Ridley Park passed away on July 25, 2025, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. Born in Philadelphia, Carl was the beloved son of the late Carl A. and Mildred (nee Stretz) Nelson. Carl was a long-time resident of Folsom and resided in Sharon Hill and Brookhaven before settling in Ridley Park six years ago.
Carl was a graduate of Ridley Township High School, class of 1954. His dedication and hard work were evident throughout his 45-year career with the District Council 21 International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, and his time with Buttonwood Inc. Carl was a man of many passions, including feeding the birds, dancing, taking trips to the beach, and watching western movies. He was known for his unwavering determination, often saying, "I'm not a quitter." Carl will be fondly remembered as a genuine, good-hearted, and selfless individual who always put others before himself. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his loving family, especially his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carl was the devoted husband of the late Eileen T. Nelson (nee McNeill) and the loving father of Donna M. Sepcie (John), Kimberly A. Mahalik, and Carl E. Nelson, Jr. (Diane). He was also the dear brother of Vera Sharkey and the late Mitzi Henrich (late Charlie), Edward Nelson (late Linda), and Barbara "Bobbie" Donaldson (late Robert). Carl's legacy lives on through his 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and his brother-in-law Thomas McNeill (late Eileen). He was predeceased by his grandson, Derrick Mahalik.
The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11 AM on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, located at 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park. Relatives and friends are welcome to call after 10 AM. Following the service, Carl will be laid to rest at Edgewood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Little Flower Manor, 1201 Springfield Rd., Darby, PA 19023, would be greatly appreciated.
