C. Scott Seltzer, 81, of Wallingford and formerly of Rose Valley, died peacefully at Birch House Cove, Long Lake, NY on Monday, July 25, 2011. Born in Philadelphia, he was son of the late Charles J. and Dorothy Evans Seltzer.
Mr. Seltzer attended Valley Forge Military Academy, graduated from George School in Newtown, and attended the University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer, USS NOA.
Scott began a long and distinguished career as an insurance broker in 1950 with his father's firm Seltzer & Mitchell, at the time the largest non-international agency in Philadelphia. Over the next five decades, he became known for his abilities to solve the most complex industry problems. He retired from business in 2000.
Mr. Seltzer was an active member of The Rose Valley Swimming Pool Corp., serving as vice-president; a past president and honorary member of the Rose Valley Folk; and member of the Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia.
Survivors: his wife of 60 years, Sallie Damon Seltzer; daughter Elizabeth E. Seltzer; sons Charles S. Seltzer, Jr. (Betsy), Peter D. Seltzer, S. Pennell Seltzer (Kellie) and Douglas E. Seltzer; sisters Joan S. Semple of Warrington, VA and Gretchen S. Rogovin of Ibiza, Spain and Iowa City, IA, also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service: 11 AM Friday, August 5, 2011 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 301 E. 9th Street, Chester.
