Obituary

C. Robert "Bob" Katein, Jr. 91, a lifelong resident of Ridley Park, died February 27, 2015 at his home. Born in Holmes, he was son of the late Constantine R. and Loretta Conley Katein. Bob was an Inspector for Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, retiring in 1986.



He graduated from St. Gabriel's School and St. James High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received the American Theater Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Bob was a member of The Church of St. Madeline, Knights of Columbus, Marion Council, the American Legion Post 0777 in Crum Lynne, the Ridley Park Swim Club and Young at Heart. Known as "Mr. Fixit," he was an avid gardener and bowler, bowling with St. Madeline and The House Mixer Leagues. He was a former member of St. Gabriel's R.C. Church.



Bob was the loving husband of the late Mary E. King Katien, his wife of 65 years, who died in 2012 and brother of the late Fred Katein and Allen Katein.



He was the devoted father of Mary Ellen Welch (John), Catherine K. Fasy (Richard) and Elizabeth A. McCormick (Daniel); loving brother of Loretta Grace, George Katein, Alma DeLaney and Connie Katein; cherished grandfather of 9 and great grandfather of 10; also survived by his sister in law, Julia King.



Funeral Mass 11:00AM Thursday at The Church of St. Madeline, Penn St. and Morton Ave., Ridley Park where friends may call from 9:15 to 10:45AM.
