Burchard V. Blackburn, Jr., 83, of Folsom died July 12, 2011 at the Taylor Hospice Residence.
Born in Cleveland, OH and reared in Wildwood, NJ, Mr. Blackburn lived in Upper Darby prior to moving to his late residence 56 years ago.
Mr. Blackburn was a Staff Sergeant for the US Army during WWII, and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal.
He was a manager for Westinghouse Corporation in Lester and Charlotte, NC for 46 years retiring in 1990 and then became a bus driver for the Rose Tree Media School District.
He was a member of the Folsom Fire Company where he served as chief and financial secretary. He was also a member of Westinghouse Fire Dept., Delaware County Fireman's Assoc., United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Assoc., and the Ridley Township Civil Service Commission. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing and reading.
He was son of the late Burchard V. and Gertrude Raech Blackburn, husband of the late Theresa Stark Blackburn who died March 27, 2005 after 57 years of marriage, and brother of the late William and Robert Blackburn.
Survivors: father of Burchard V. Blackburn, III (Catherine) of Lenni and Claudia A. Blackburn of Lancaster, brother of Donald Blackburn of Dade County, FL and grandfather of Matthew, Burchard IV, Timothy, Kelsey and Zachary Blackburn, a special niece Johanna Palmer, also niece Christine and nephews Steven, Joseph and William Blackburn.
Burial Rite and Eucharist 10 AM Saturday, July 16, 2011 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 576 Concord Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342.(Concord Twp.)
Visitation: 7 to 9 PM Friday at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Avenue, Ridley Park and 9 to 9:45 AM Saturday at the above church
Burial: SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
