Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty B.J.) Jane Leonard, passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Granite Run in Media, PA on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025. She was surrounded by two of her grandsons Cody and Evan Lewis. Her dear friend Edna made sure we were all able to FaceTime our dear Mom Mom, and let her know just how much we love her now and always within an hour of her passing. Betty was born in Chester, PA., on December 18th, the second of three children born to Joseph D. Miller and Elizabeth M. (Coonan) Miller.
Betty completed her elementary education at Parkside, and her highschool years at Notre Dame. Betty (B.J.) committed 20 years as a Counselor at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, PA. Where she brought comfort to families in her community as they made those final decisions to lay their loved ones to rest. Everyone's favorite candy came from Betty's home business especially around the holidays. Her easter eggs were classic and are talked about to this day.

Mom was a member of St. Joseph's Parish for over 50 years and a member of Hall Burke VFW in Claymont, DE Ladies Auxiliary for over 39 years. She joined the VFW in 1977. Betty was proud to be the head of the Poppy Committees, and trustee for 35 years. Shuffleboard was a weekly commitment for over 30 years, and B.J. was always the one to beat. She remained true to her Alma Mater and Notre Dame Associates. Betty organized the only Parkside Reunion in 1995 for the fabulous 40's. Mom took pride in her flower displays she did faithfully each week for the dining tables at Sunrise, and was known for her flowers, paintings, and craft displayed in her beautiful homes throughout the years. Her patriotism and respect for the military followed her husband across the country as a wife of a retired Marine. She won an abundance of ribbons with her poppy displays and hung the American Flag honoring those who served and continue to serve today. Mom Mom always had a keen interest in the activities of her grandchildren, whether it be football, baseball, hockey, softball, school events, travel, or whatever. Mom could always tell you a story, name, or relative connection throughout her life. She was blessed with many wonderful neighbours and friends and enjoyed hosting visits with them as well as her family. Mom introduced all of us to the ocean and the joys of Wildwood, NJ. Some of our greatest memories come from the days on the beach and endless hours on the Boardwalk.

She took pleasure from simple things in life. Betty was predeceased by her husband Robert James Leonard, her parents, brother Monsignor Jack Miller, and sister Jean (Miller) Liberato and brother-in-law Gabe. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Lydia, daughter Laureen (Jim) Sobetek, son Bill (Lauri), son Larry (Lorna), grandchildren, Joseph (Catie) Bishop, Jodie, Kylie (Berkeley) Lewis, Aydan, Kellen, Cody and Evan. Great Grandchildren Dominic and Bentley, cousins and many dear friends who she called family.

I will never forget you
My people,
I have carved you in the palm of my hand,
