Bertram (Bert) Peters left this world peacefully on May 29, 2025 surrounded by his beloved family. The only son of Bertram and Nataline Peters, he was raised in the Twin Oaks section of Upper Chichester Township. Bert attended Holy Savior Grade School and St. James High School, where he was a member of the football team. He loved football and was an avid Eagles fan, although back in the seventies he could also be found rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In 1971 he joined the United States Navy, where he served for four years as a Quartermaster on the U.S.S. Fort Snelling. His tour of duty allowed him to see the world, serving in the North Atlantic and Caribbean. Many stories were told of his travels. Although his final performance evaluation stated he was highly recommended for advancement and re-enlistment, to no one's surprise, he chose to return to civilian life. He was anxious to get back to spending weekends drag racing with his friends and their '66 Chevelle, "Blood, Sweat and Tears", at Cecil County Dragway.
Bert started his lifelong career in the fire protection industry at Joseph Stong, Inc. in Chester, PA. He worked at various other companies throughout the years and retired from the industry in 2017.
In 1977, Bert married his loving wife, Donna, with whom he shared forty-eight beautiful years. They were blessed with two amazing sons, Zach and Shane, a cherished daughter-in-law Caitlyn and their precious granddaughter, Sadie Elizabeth, who was the light of his life.
As a family, in 1988 they settled in Ridley Park, PA, where they were surrounded by wonderful neighbors and made many happy memories. In the summers, Bert could be found at the Ridley Park Swim Club, where he eventually joined the Board of Directors.
In 2005, Bert and Donna were fortunate enough to build a vacation home in Rock Hall, MD, where again they were blessed to be surrounded by wonderful neighbors, even though they were considered Chicken Neckers!!!! Bert especially loved when the kids would come down to visit and bring their friends to hang out. So many visitors, so many stories, so many beers, and so many cruises on his treasured Mako, "Blood, Sweat and Tears", which he named after his race car. Truly some of the best years of his life were spent here at his Happy Place.
In 2013, the family welcomed into their home a special rescue dog, Sasha. Bert couldn't have loved her more. We are sure Sasha was the first to greet him in heaven.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Donna (Povey) Peters, sons Zach Peters (Caitlyn) and Shane Peters, granddaughter Sadie Peters, sister Nataline Van Wyk, five loving sisters-in-law and one special brother-in-law along with their spouses, many nieces and nephews, his grand puppy Gypsy and his lifelong friends.
A Celebration of Bert's Life will take place at 11 AM on Friday, June 6, 2025 at the White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park where relatives and friends may call after 9:30. Burial private.
