Bernadette C. Headley Carney 81 of Media, died October 4, 2014 at Fair Acres Geriatric Center, where she received excellent care.

Born in Chester, Mrs. Carney was a resident of Media for 47 years, coming from New Carrollton, MD, where she lived for 10 years.

She attended Saint Robert's School, graduated from The School of the Holy Child in 1950 and Pierce Business School in 1952 with an Associate Degree in Accounting and Bookkeeping. She was also an accomplished seamstress.

While living in Maryland, she established herself as an independent contracting bookkeeper for many businesses in her community. She also worked as a seamstress and tailor for many of the department stores in the Washington, DC area.

Upon returning to Pennsylvania, she worked as a bookkeeper for Headley's Express and Storage Company for 20 years. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the Middletown Sewer Authority for 10 years, retiring in 1997.

She was a member of St. Francis deSales Church in Lenni and the St. Francis Mother's Club. She served as a Brownie leader and school lunch mother.

She was a gifted artist working with oils, water colors and charcoal and enjoyed sharing her talent with others, especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Carney was wife of the late Anthony "Tony" M. Carney, her husband of 51 years who died in 2008 and daughter of the late Joseph E. and Nellie C. Friel Headley and sister of the late Helen, Joseph, James and infant Mary Headley.

She is survived by her children Anthony M. "Tony" Carney, Jr., Joseph T. Carney and Helen Backer and grandchildren Patrick, Sean, Christopher, Jr., Bridget, Daniel, Ana and Bernadette.

Funeral Mass 11:00AM Saturday at The Church of St. Joseph, 3255 Concord Rd., Aston where friends may call 9:30 to 10:45AM. Burial SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
